Workshops

The Tangible Kingdom - Hugh Halter
Everything is shifting in regards to church. What it is, why we should do it, and what forms it should take. In this session, Hugh Halter exposes the basic DNA of incarnational communities and unpacks how a local faith network called Adullam has emerged by trying “not to do church.”

Get Power Serve Others – Jose Escobar
Followers of Jesus don’t need power but they are given power. Through the story of Jose Escobar we will explore how one man chose to acquire power so he could use it on behalf of the powerless. Jose is a pilot for United Airlines. While continuing to fly he decided to attend law school at Denver University. He is now part of the legal staff at the Justice and Mercy Legal Action Center, Denver that serves the poor & marginalized. And he continues his day job as a pilot for United Airlines.

Doable Evangelism – Randy Siever
About 90% of Christians do not participate in any form of evangelism, while 75% of non-Christians are ignored . Doable Evangelism is about engaging the 90% with ordinary attempts that are fun and doable and reclaiming evangelism as a spiritual practice
Learn:
• Why evangelism isn’t normal.
• How to make evangelism doable for ordinary Christians
• The three spiritual practices of doable evangelism

Adversaries to Advocates – Karl Wheeler & Kathy Escobar
What happens when relationships supersede policies and programs? How do you create conversations instead of relying on preaching? Can leadership structures really be flat & flexible? Can we eliminate the “us and them” mentality? This interactive panel-lead workshop will focus on dreaming of new ways to live out our faith in community.

Leaders Who Understand the Times – Sam Trujillo
The Bible has a story about the people of Issachar, a small tribe who understood the times & knew what God’s people should do. What does this mean for this next generation of leaders? How can we be people who understand our times and advise God’s people today on what to do?

Safe Spaces – Makeesha Fisher
Engaging with people who believe differently than us is one of the trickiest things for Christians to do. How do we create safe places for conversations with people from different faith stories so we can learn from each other?

Conversationally Speaking- Elaine Hansen
More than 25 years ago, I took my first “listening” class and was crushed to realize – that every time I was in a conversation with someone and opened my mouth to “help” them – I was disrespecting them and disrespecting what God/the Holy Spirit was doing in them. It was a relief to learn how to put aside the urge to “fix” people and replace it with conversations that help.

Life after Church – Helen Mildenhall
A thousand evangelicals leave the faith every day, most of them leaving Christianity altogether (Christine Wicker, The Fall of The Evangelical Nation). Who are these people? Why did they leave? What are they looking for? How can we connect with people who intentionally walked away from what we care most about? In this workshop Helen Mildenhall, once a Bible-believing Christian, now almost atheist, will share her story and lead discussion on these issues.
