Off The Map Goes Sundance

By Jim Henderson
When I go into a video store I head for the Sundance section
Over the past 20 years Sundance has established a reputation for being the leader in innovative filmmaking
The way you know they’re the leaders? They only need one word to describe themselves. Sundance!
They started out by working with the people who couldn’t get a hearing in Hollywood.
Now Hollywood comes to them
They started out as an annual event
Now they create products, a TV Channel and have become a brand others (like us) want to associate with
Sundance has a reputation for being on the side of the underdog- the outsider – the little person
Sundance gives those people a voice, a platform and a chance
Because of Sundance we now have a category called The Indies – which has become its own industry.
Now famous people like Brad Pitt offer their services to Indies because they admire the work and want to help get exposure for their non celebrity friends and colleagues.
Some business people refer to what Sundance has done as “creating a Blue Ocean”
Red oceans are inhabited by companies, organizations (and churches) that fight over the same group of customers
Blue Oceans are filled with people who aren’t interested in what these organizations have to offer
Blue Oceans are filled with these organizations non customers
Sundance and other creative organizations like Cirque De Soleil are swimming in the Blue Ocean by offering something for these non customers.
Off The Map aspires to swim in the Blue Ocean where there is no competition
Off The Map believes we don’t need to be first we need to be the only (thanks Jerry Garcia)
Off The Map seeks to be the Sundance Festival for people who practice the art of serving others a.k.a. Otherlyness
Join us in Seattle for our annual event Nov 20-21 along with Michael Frost and Phyllis Tickle.
And several lesser known but incredibly talented people like Richard Townsell David Ruis and Rose Madrid Swetman
